Second, check if a different browser helps. E.g try Google Chrome.
Third, check that you are entering your Aston username and password where required - your username isn't your email address. It's what you would use to log-in to a PC on campus, so is without the @aston.ac.uk bit Finally, there are 2 versions of OpenAthens used by suppliers for authentication to their resources. One is called OpenAthens and one is called OpenAthens LA. The University uses OpenAthens LA.
If you access journal articles and resources by going to http://www.aston.ac.uk/library and using Library SmartSearch then all the links to articles, journals or databases are set up to go to the correct login screen where you just need to enter your Aston username and password. This is the quickest and most reliable method of logging in to resources as you just need to click on the link to the article or database that you want and will be taken to the correct login screen.
However, if you just use Google for searching for articles or other resources Google will not know you are an Aston student or staff member so will give you different options for login. This is where it can get confusing as the options will be:
- Other Institution OR
If you get either of these options for logging in you should always choose Other Institution OR Shibboleth but OpenAthens as this will take you to the wrong login screen.
For reference if you see this screen you are at the correct login screen and will be able to get access once you have entered your Aston username and password:
If you see this screen you should use the box on the right-hand side to search for Aston University. If you try to login on the left-hand side, you will see an error:
Go to Library SmartSearch where all the links to articles, journals or databases are set up to go to the correct login screen.
